A transcript is the text of what is said in a video or audio file, with the time of each sentence. You can read it, correct it, search your library by spoken words and export it as captions.

Transcribe a file

  1. Open the launcher, press Media and open a video or audio file.
  2. Find the Speech group. It says Not transcribed until a transcript exists.
  3. Press Transcribe. A cost label may appear beside the button, and for a larger job Use credits? asks you to press Continue.
  4. The row says Transcribing…. This can take a few minutes. When it is done, the row reads Transcript, with its language, the number of words and a chip: Word timings or Approximate timings.

If a file has no talking, the row says No speech found. If it did not finish, the reason is under Not transcribed.

Read and correct a transcript

  1. Press the Transcript row. Press a sentence to play the file from there.
  2. Type in Find in this transcript to look for a word.
  3. Press Edit, change the text of a sentence and press Save. A correction becomes a new version.
  4. Press Speakers to give names to the people talking.

More things you can do

  • Transcribe again lets you choose the Language (or Detect automatically) and turn on Separate speakers. Your corrections stay current, and the new transcript goes to the history.
  • In the menu on the transcript, Import captions reads an SRT or VTT file you already have. Export as SRT, Export as VTT and Export as text download the transcript.
  • History lists every version. Press Restore (or Use this version) to make one current.

Search by what is said

Type a word in Search name or tag in Media. A file whose transcript has it shows Said at and the sentence. Press the tile to open the transcript at that sentence.

Good to know

  • Transcribing a file uses credits. Importing captions does not. For what things cost, see What things cost and where to see it.
  • Where this is switched on for your workspace, new videos with sound can be transcribed automatically after the upload.
  • If a file has no Transcribe button, it may be an image or a file without sound, or the feature may not be on for your workspace. If you don't see this, ask us with Help and feedback.
  • Transcribing many files at once is done by our team. Ask us with Help and feedback.
